Governance of New Technologies Conference i Edinburgh

Jag och Stefan har kommit fram till Edinburgh och konferensen Governance of New Technologies. I går var det wine reception på universitetet och vi kom att samtala med bland andra Michael Anthony C. Dizon om boken Customary Law of the Internet. Jag började läsa boken på flyget från Köpenhamn till Skottland och den verkar lovande. Författaren P.P.Polanski försöker visa på nya vägar att skapa rättslig ordning på internet. Han argumenterar för att sociala normer på nätet bör upphöjas till en slags gällande sedvanerätt. En sådan lösning skulle ge rätten en defensiv roll i det att den fångar upp den existerande praktiken samtidigt som rätten i en sådan lösning knappast kan bidra till att utveckla nya normer och ny praktik. 

Har ätit en rejäl frukost bestående av bland annat Haggis (inälvor från får om jag förstått saken rätt…) och skall nu vandra ner till universitetet och dagens presentationer. I morgon presenterar jag och Stefan forskningen inom ramen för Cybernormer. Skall bli spännade att få ta del av synpunkter på vårt projekt – inte minst då den här konferensen i huvudsak handlar om hur man via rättsliga regleringar skall kunna tämja internet. Vi har en mer sociologisk position och vill förstå normer på internet utan en strävan att förändra dem i riktning mot offline-samhällets normer.
